Brazil is set to break records in chicken meat production and exports

The Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) updated its data and projected records for chicken meat production and exports for 2023.
According to ABPA, chicken meat production is expected to reach up to 14.95 million tons produced over the 12 months of 2023, a number 3% higher than that recorded in the same period last year, with 14.52 million tons.

The availability of products on the domestic market is expected to reach 9.85 million tons, a volume 1.5% higher than the 9.70 million tons recorded in 2022. As a result, per capita consumption of chicken meat is expected to remain at 46 kilos this year. year, 1.5% higher than the 45.2 kilos per capita recorded in 2022.

For the first time in history, the sector is expected to surpass the barrier of 5 million tons exported, if ABPA’s projections are confirmed. This year, the entity’s expectation is for total shipments of 5.20 million tons, a volume up to 8% higher than shipments recorded in 2022, with 4.82 million tons.

“Brazil should continue to gain space in the international market. This is, in part, thanks to the expansion of business with the main trading partners and the reduction in shipments from the main competitors of Brazilian exporters. At the same time, a better balance between supply and demand can be seen in this second half of the year, with more reasonable production costs after three years of historic highs in the price of main inputs”, assesses the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin.
