BRF unit optimizes water management

The Capinzal unit of BRF, one of the largest food companies in the world, is optimizing its water management in line with the company’s commitment to reduce its water consumption indicator by 13% by 2025. Last year, the factory saved 600,000 liters of water per day, totaling 172,800,000 liters per year, equivalent volume to supply 15,600 people for ten days.
The result, which earned the Company the Expressão de Ecologia Award trophy, is a reflection of the project to reduce water consumption in the unit’s hygiene process, which involved changing hose tips for cleaning, increasing dry collection, implementing of good operational practices and microbiological monitoring with the guarantee of efficiency, in addition to training, awareness and collaboration of the entire team.
“With multidisciplinary and efficient work in the hanging, bleeding, scalding, evisceration, pre-cooling, cutting room and industrialized production sectors, we achieved an expressive result, contributing to the sustainability of the operation”, explains Giovani Lazzarin Mendonça, industrial executive manager at BRF’s Capinzal unit.
According to the executive, Quality is one of the Company’s non-negotiable commitments and the actions carried out at the unit promoted improvements in microbiological results, both in the physical environment and in the products manufactured.
The achievement reinforces BRF’s commitment to integrating sustainability into its value chain in order to preserve natural resources. The Company is committed to reducing its water consumption indicator by 13% by 2025.
