Eggs from Brazil support Asian demand for the product

Brazil’s egg export sector is gaining importance on the shelves of Japan, a country that is a traditional importer of chicken meat in Brazil.

This year, according to the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), between January and August, egg exports totaled 21,119 thousand tons, a number 178.5% higher than that recorded in the first eight months of 2022, with 7,583 thousand tons. In the same period, accumulated revenue reached US$52.380 million, a result 222% higher than that recorded in the same period in 2022, with US$16.270 million.

The main destination for egg exports from Brazil, Japan imported 9,212 thousand tons between January and August, a number 1,164% higher than the volume shipped in the same period of the previous year.

For the year, projections indicate total shipments of 32.5 thousand tons of eggs from Brazil, a number 240% higher than the total exported in 2022, with 9.47 thousand tons.

“There was a change in egg export flows in 2023, with a significant gain in relevance for Japan. In this context, it is expected that egg exports will reach the level of 1% of the total produced by Brazil. This is an important achievement for the sector, generating new opportunities for producers”, said the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin.

According to the same projections, the country’s total production is expected to reach 52.55 billion units in 2023, 1% higher than the 52.06 billion units produced in 2022. Per capita consumption of eggs in Brazil is expected to end the year around 242 units, a number 0.5% higher than the 241 units per capita consumed in 2022.
